Home Extensions in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

There’s nothing worse than an extension that looks like a Lego brick stuck onto the back of a beautiful period property. Cheltenham is famous for its architecture, from Regency terraces to cosy Cotswold stone cottages, and we take that heritage seriously. Because we are carpenters as well as builders, we pay attention to the details that general builders often miss. We don’t just throw up four walls and a roof. We think about how the new roofline meets the old one, how the brickwork matches, and how the internal joinery flows from the original hallway into the new space. Whether it's a sleek modern kitchen extension with bifold doors or a traditional two-storey addition, we make sure the 'new' part of your house feels like it’s always belonged.

Starting a build can feel a bit daunting, can't it? You might be wondering how you’ll manage the noise, the dust, and the different tradespeople coming in and out. At DP Carpentry and Building LTD, we take the weight off your shoulders with a full turnkey service. We handle everything. That means we’re there for the 'first-fix'—the messy but vital stuff like digging foundations, installing RSJs (structural steels) to open up your living space, and getting the wiring and plumbing in place. But because we're specialists in architectural joinery, we really shine during the 'second-fix'. This is where we hang the doors, fit the skirting boards, and install those bespoke kitchen units or fitted wardrobes that turn a building site into a home. You won't have to juggle five different contractors; you just talk to us.

Do you need planning permission for a single-storey extension? Will the council be okay with a loft conversion in a conservation area? These are the questions that keep homeowners up at night. If you’re in a spot like Montpellier or the Suffolks, the rules can be quite strict. Many projects actually fall under 'Permitted Development,' meaning you might not need full planning permission at all. We’ll help you understand what’s possible, ensure every beam and joist meets building regulations, and make sure all the paperwork is signed off correctly. It’s all about giving you peace of mind that your investment is safe and legal.

Many people are looking for that elusive 'open-plan living' feel. Usually, that means extending out the back to create a bright, airy kitchen-diner. Imagine a space flooded with natural light from a roof lantern, where you can open up the bifold doors on a sunny afternoon in Prestbury and let the outside in. We specialise in these kinds of transformations. We can help you design a space that isn't just big, but also practical. We'll look at the flow of the room, where the light hits, and how to maximise your storage with clever carpentry. It’s about creating a space where the whole family actually wants to hang out, rather than everyone being stuck in separate rooms.
